Helping Parkinson’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis spasms with the use of spas

Many people who suffer from Parkinson’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis suffer from extreme muscle spasms that can be a part of the disease process. Spas and spa pools have long been used throughout Europe to assist with muscle clonus (spastic) nature.

The goal here is to lessen muscle spasms, improve coordination, lower body temperature, and helping the person with muscle spasms to move better with less discomfort.

This does not work for everyone, as no one particular therapy covers everyone, but it's worth trying.

nMost people with muscle spasms often take pain relievers (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories or NSAIDS), and these can sometimes block the glutathione pathway that is essential to the speech, movement, swallowing, and bowel function of Parkinson’s patients.

The concept is to see if this therapy can help those suffering with an alternative to taking non-stop pain relievers.

Using spa therapy to help with MS and Parkinsons

There are several important things to consider when using a spa to help people with Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis.

Firstly, there needs to be someone mobile enough or strong enough to assist someone in getting in and out of a spa or spa pool.

Secondly, the person should never be left alone since not all people respond the same way to temperature and being in the water, and may need the help of the assisting person.

Third, the first temperature to start with is 96-98 degrees fahrenheit, which is 36-37 degrees celsius.

The spa time should only be roughly 10 minutes. If this is tolerated, then turning down the spa to 80 degrees fahrenheit =27 degrees celsius if tolerated.

Again, each time the temperature is lowered the time should begin very gradually to see how it is tolerated.

"Most people have attained their greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure. "
Napoleon Hill

If this is tolerated, then a longer time in the same temperature would be warranted. If not, then turn up slightly and try the next day at a slightly warmer temperature.
You are looking to create slight hypothermia (chilling of the muscles), although this is not as comfortable as warm or hot water, it can really help to relieve muscles spasms very well.

Many times it works even better than warmer water. If the 80 degrees fahrenheit =27 degrees celsius works, then try going down to 70 degrees fahrenheit=21 degrees celsius.

This lower temperature range between 70-80 degrees fahrenheit = 21-27 degrees celsius seems to be the most productive for treating the muscle spasms. It works against you to add things that increase heat while in the spa or spa pool.

It is good once out of the pool to do some therapeutic exercises to help the blood flow. Many times this is the best time for those who suffer from Parkinson’s Disease or Multiple Sclerosis to have the best mobility and the lowest amount of spasm in the musculature.

Remember, this treatment has been helping patients with both of these disorders since the first research was done in the 1800s in Germany. Because of its labour intensive nature, it has been dropped from most hospitals and treatment facilities. It certainly is worth a try to see if this can help you.

DISCLAIMER: The advice given in the blogs is about creating new ideas and possibilities that people might not have thought of for helping themselves. Some of the ideas are from recent or past research, some are from helping patients find solutions in clinical settings, and some are things that have worked for several patients. The main point is that we are not diagnosing your condition, its level, the many symptoms and issues that can come with any disorder, and making direct recommendations to your specific condition. These ideas are meant to spark ideas that you can discuss with your health practitioner and get direct advice on your specific condition. This gives you the greatest level of protection and knowing that if you take the ideas and put them into practice that they will not harm you in any way.
