How to tell if an outdoor umbrella provides UV protection?

UV protection matters because too much sun exposure can lead to skin damage. To check if an umbrella offers protection, look for a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) rating. This shows how well the fabric blocks UV rays.

In Australia, a UPF 30 rating is considered "good," while UPF 50 or 50+ is considered "excellent," according to the Australian Government agency ARPANSA.
