A vision years in the making.

When Andy and Penny knocked down and rebuilt their Seven Hills home in 2018–2019, a backyard spa was never an afterthought, it was the whole point. They chose a floor plan with the master bedroom opening directly to the rear of the property because they already knew exactly what they wanted out there: somewhere beautiful to breathe, a tranquil extension of their private space, with a spa pool right at the heart of it.

The inspiration was personal. Holidays abroad had shown them what a thoughtfully designed outdoor space with a spa could actually feel like, that moment you step outside and instantly feel your shoulders drop. They wanted that feeling waiting for them at home, not just once a year, but every single day.

Health played its part too. With a few injuries between them, the idea of having proper hydrotherapy on tap wasn't a luxury, it was quietly becoming a necessity. And honestly, the Seven Hills climate just sealed the deal. Summers that make you desperate for somewhere cool to unwind. Winter evenings that were practically invented for sinking into a heated spa and letting the day melt away.

A partially in-ground spa that feels built-in

This installation uses a partially in-ground approach to soften the overall look of the Vortex® Titanium™. Instead of sitting fully above ground, the spa is recessed into the deck, which reduces its visual height and helps it feel like a permanent part of the space.

This design choice also improves usability. Stepping into the spa is easier and more natural, especially for daily use or for users focused on recovery and mobility.

Designed as an extension of the home

The spa was always part of a bigger vision. Positioned directly off the master bedroom, the Vortex® Titanium™ becomes a natural extension of the indoor living space.

This layout supports regular use. Whether it’s a morning soak or evening wind-down, the spa is easy to access and feels connected to everyday routines rather than being a separate feature.

Landscaping that creates privacy and atmosphere

The surrounding tropical planting plays a key role in the overall success of the project. Dense greenery, including tall screening plants, creates privacy while adding a relaxed, holiday-style feel.

Garden beds are also used strategically to break up the deck and define zones. The spa area feels separate from the dining space, while still maintaining a cohesive outdoor layout.

Overcoming access and installation challenges

Getting the Vortex® Titanium™ into position required careful planning. With limited access, the spa was craned over a fence from a neighbouring property to reach the backyard.

Like many projects, there were additional challenges during construction, including weather delays and coordination between trades. These were managed through hands-on project management, allowing the homeowners to maintain control over the final result.
