Before your spa is installed, please read this guide carefully to help ensure a stress-free delivery and installation. It covers the safety and technical requirements you need to know, including site access, foundation needs, and required clearance around the spa for delivery, cover operation, servicing, and maintenance.

This is especially important if you are building a deck, recessing the spa into a pit, or using a ClearLift™ Automatic Swim Spa Cover. Insufficient clearance can delay installation, restrict servicing, and lead to added costs later.

We recommend confirming your site access, foundation, and model-specific clearance requirements before any building work begins. For exact dimensions, always download your specific model’s details from the Manuals/Tech Pack page before construction starts.

Important safety information for spa owners

Spa pool barriers and fencing

Local pool safety guidelines must be followed for all pools, spa pools and swim spas. Fencing and barrier rules can differ from state to state. Consult with your local council to find out the fencing rules in your area.

Electrical requirements and considerations

Never position a spa, swim spa or any other type of pool near overhead cables or power lines.

All electrical work needs to be carried out by a licensed electrician and must conform to all national, state and local electrical codes in effect at the time of installation. If the supply cord on your spa is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

If you are installing any metallic item within arm’s length of a spa or swim spa you may require equipotential bonding to be performed by a licensed electrician.

Where your spa or swim spa is positioned on your property is the second most important decision you’ll make – after deciding which spa to buy. In fact, some would say it is the most important decision as the position often determines the size and type of spa or swim spa you buy.

What to consider before delivery

Property access information

Before we can deliver your spa, we need to know what the access to your property is like and if there are any hazards or specific equipment requirements our delivery team should be aware of. Without your property access details, we cannot deliver your spa.

Making sure you have a solid foundation

Your spa needs a solid, flat, level foundation.

If the foundation is inadequate, it may shift or settle after the spa is in place causing stress to the spa shell and cabinet which will void the warranty.

Always consult your building professional for advice about your specific circumstances. All work needs to be carried out within the guidelines of your local building regulations.

Refer to your spa model specification sheet for weights and dimensions. Simply search the model name on the Spa World website and scroll to the specification section to download the specification and tech pack.

The three most common foundation types:

Concrete slabs. Portable spas under 3.5m need 100mm minimum reinforced concrete. Swim spas and spas larger than 3.5m will need a 150mm minimum reinforced concrete pad.

Timber decks. Decks must be designed and built to local building regulations by a registered builder.

Inground spa and swim spa pits. If your spa or swim spa is in a pit you need to consult with your local builder/contractor regarding drainage and concrete slab.

Is there adequate drainage for flood protection?

All spas and swim spas must have adequate drainage around the foundation to ensure that the spa or swim spa is not flooded. Consult your builder or landscaper. Flooding is not covered under your spa warranty.

Can the spa be accessed for service and maintenance?

Your spa must be positioned to allow for adequate service access on all sides of the spa. It is imperative that all cabinet panels around your spa can be accessed and removed for servicing.

Specifically, careful consideration is required when installing your spa in a deck.

ClearLift™ clearance considerations

If your swim spa includes an optional ClearLift™ cover, it is important to understand how the cover opens and how much surrounding space is required before installation. The diagrams below show the difference between left-mounted and right-mounted ClearLift™ configurations and help illustrate why clearance planning matters for cover movement, service access and practical day-to-day use.

Note: ClearLift™ clearance requirements and measurements vary depending on your swim spa model and configuration. Before building a deck, pit or any surrounding structure, always check your specific model’s Tech Pack for the exact dimensions, opening direction, service-side access requirements and keypad positioning.

ClearLift™ opening allowance

If your swim spa includes an optional ClearLift™ cover, it is important to allow enough surrounding space for both the cover opening movement and the fully opened cover position.

The diagrams below show the approximate clearances for a left-mounted ClearLift™ cover on a swim spa with a height of 1300 mm.

ClearLift™ keypad controller position

To meet safety and operational requirements, the ClearLift™ keypad controller must be securely mounted on the spa cabinet. Remote installation of the ClearLift™ keypad controller is not permitted.

The ClearLift™ keypad controller is installed with the bottom of the controller 220 mm below the lip of the spa. Any decking or surrounding structure must remain clear of this area.

As swim spa models vary, cabinet panel separation points can differ depending on the spa height:

• 1300 mm high swim spas: end cabinet panels are separated at 570 mm down from the bottom of the lip of the shell and 630 mm up from the bottom of the swim spa.
• 1500 mm high swim spas: end cabinet panels are separated at 670 mm down from the bottom of the lip of the shell and 730 mm up from the bottom of the swim spa.

Always check your specific model’s Tech Pack before building decking or other surrounding structures.
